Grand Theft Auto has always found a way to make it into the news. Usually for it's violent content. But recently it's been making the news for it's sexually suggestive scenes. I find this very surprisng. The game has enough violence in it, are parents really okay with all the shootings, murders and theft in it? If these parents are okay with all of those is the sex in the video games really going to make it that much worse?

It just surprises me that some things are overlooked. I know I've seen the video game played before, I wouldnt want me kid playing that game no matter what. But for some reason the older ones are okay to play, and the new one is to graphic? I can remember a time my brother was playing and you were able to get a hooker and take her to your car? I think this game should have been evaluated way before. Its just surprising they are just now saying anything about it.

Hip Hop and Islam?

I actually had this website passed on to me the other day. It actually caught me by surprise. It is the website for a group that calls them selves "786" in Islamic terms "786" is the numerical combination of the prayer "bismillah" These guys came together to form a group that sings about Islam and preches it. It is interesting because this group is more modern then anything the Islamic world has ever seen. These are 5 young guys singing what they beleive in.

You are probably wondering why this has anything to with Hip Hop. Well a few of the singers claim to get their inspiration from many Hip Hop artists, it just goes to show; Hip Hop has grown and become a part of everyones lives.

This movie has a hip hop focus. It is about the main character basically being a "nothing" in life. His only upside is he is great with words. He wants to do somthing with his life but is clueless, until his freind pushes him to persue a life in music. He begins to freestyle, and the movie follows his journey.

According to prohiphop.com This movie has done fairly well along with its compatition. It was No. 7 bringing in 8 million dollars.

This just goes to show hip hop is everywhere, even in the movies.

Reality Cashing in on Hip Hop

A new article on Prohiphop.com discusses the not so old reality tv phenomena. Many producers have been cashing in on the craze for a few years now. Fox recently aired a new reality tv show for dancers. This is a dance competition similar to american idol. It shows some 2000 dance hopefuls entering the contest, and focuses on the journey of a few lucky contestants. The winner will receive $100,000 as a grand prize. This show will try to include all dance forms, includding hip hop. This competition promises to be tough, and worth watching.

I think its interesting how hip hop has become a promenant name in most households. Even reality television is starting to slowly cash in on it's popularity. It has moved a long way from the 80's to now. It has become more popular, and continues to gain popularity.

Companies Cash in using HIP HOP

I thought this article on prohiphop.com was very interesting. It discusses the company reebox announcing a 71% increase in sales. A well desereved thanks was given to the lyrics used to boost up shoe sales. The lyrics for the "I am what I am" campaign were seen as directly effecting the targeted audience. The CEO's went on to say that they support the marketing strategy using rappers, and athleats.
